Buttermilk isn't just for biscuits

Some might say that ice cream is a summer food. I say that ice cream is an anytime food, and can (and should!) be consumed during the winter, too. I think ice cream just might be my favorite dessert. It's just so tasty!

This ice cream is a bit tart (from the buttermilk) and almost tastes like cheesecake. It's a perfect recipe to use up that extra buttermilk sitting in your fridge. Try it!

Buttermilk Ice Cream

Ingredients:
  • 1 quart well-shaken buttermilk
  • 1 pint heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 Tablespoons vanilla extract
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl or pitcher and then chill completely in the refrigerator. Pour into your ice cream machine, following your manufacturer’s instructions, and process until the mixture begins to thicken and set up. Transfer the ice cream to a plastic container with a tight fitting lid and freeze for a few hours before serving.
